KwaZulu-Natal has decided to share one of their best (and probably
best-kept) secrets with Johannesburg: The Bedroom.
An ‘exclusive sensual boutique for women’, this will change your
standards and perceptions when it comes to shopping for intimate pleasure
accessories. There is no fluorescent lighting, no dodgy sales person leering at
you from behind a sticky counter, and no cheap decor. What you will find is an
attractive lady asking if you’ve visited the shop before, and giving you a tour
if you haven’t.
With the exception of one visit to Sexpo three years ago, the
significant other would hand me a wad of money with the instruction of getting
myself something nice, for the benefit of both of us behind closed doors. The
experience has always been an awkward and uncomfortable experience. Not this
time.
Everything – form the library, lingerie, lotions and potions, to the
battery-powered (and rechargeable) toys are explained, demonstrated and
discussed in an educated and grown up way, and in the most peaceful atmosphere.
There is soft lighting and sensual scents, and gorgeously discreet shopping
baskets.
Here you won’t feel rushed to get out and have a hot disinfecting
shower. You won’t even mind if people see you entering, because it shows you
value yourself enough to only shop for the best. Sure there are novelty and gag
items – perfect to liven up a girls’ night – available too, but even that is
displayed in a way that will not offend even the most sensitive or shy shopper.
And while this boutique caters mainly for women, gentlemen are welcome on
appointment, and couples are invited to browse over weekends.
My visit to The Bedroom was an exploration mission. The next visit will
definitely be with a paid-up credit card in one hand, and a shopping list in
the other.
The Bedroom also offers discreet online shopping. Follow them onTwitter and Facebook to stay up to date with news and special offers.
